Last week, we met Wipeout Canada contestant Matt Wright, a complicated man with grand ambitions and small shorts. As we learned almost immediately, Matt has an awful lot to say -- so we had to break our interview with him into two separate blog posts.
Happily, we've also uncovered more footage of Matt on the Wipeout Canada set, so be sure to check that out in our video centre.
But before you do, here's the rest of that phone conversation:
WipeoutCanada.com: Let's talk a bit about your extra-curricular projects.
Matt Wright: I watch these shows like American Idol, or that new one called The Voice... What they're all missing is what I like to call star quality. Staying power. What can I do? Naturally, I can record an album. I think when my album drops -- that's a term that we use in the industry, 'drops' -- I'm going to launch my single "Meerkat Mayhem" which I think, really captures the relationship that a man can have with a group of six or seven meerkats. It's something that most men deny in their lives and I want meerkats to become part of our society.
My second project is my self-help book, which is called Matt Wright: Dreamchaser. I teach you how to go after those dreams, but most importantly, I teach you that even if people say things like "You can't do that," or "You are too short," I don't let it stop me because I know better than that. And like my mother always said to me as a child, "You suck." I never let that get me down. The world needs to hear this.
So, as we mentioned last week, we don't have a lot of bio information about you, Matt. Do you have a motto?
Eat right, play safe, and when you see a mob of guys coming towards you, run.
That's one of the longer mottos.
I don't know why you're judging me right now.
We're not. What's your Wipeout shout-out?
"Matt Wright!"
Anything you want to say to your fellow competitors?
I would like to say to the other contestants, that I don't know why I've been omitted from the Facebook groups. I have repeatedly tried to add myself but I keep getting removed. I would like to also add that I don't care, if that wasn't clear. And I would like to say one last thing to Jessica Phillips: If you're going to tell me that I am allowed in your tent, please don't be surprised when I'm wearing your blouses.
