What makes a good Wipeout Canada contestant? I get asked this a lot. Now that we're a few episodes in, I think it's safe to say that there's a difference between what makes someone a good contestant and what makes someone a likely winner.
For us hosts, what makes a good contestant is a naked volleyball-playing grandma with a good sense of humour. (Yes, she exists... and she's in this Sunday's episode.) Those qualities allow for some gentle mockery on our part and some entertaining viewing (hopefully) for you.
Plus, presumably for a contestant like Naked Nanna there's some satisfaction in just completing the course -- even if she doesn't imagine herself winning. So she's not a lock for taking $50,000 back home, but she is taking a lot of pride at a job, well, done.
A likely winner, as we've seen so far, requires a Neapolitan of athleticism, fearlessness and determination. Served with a cocktail of buoyancy and bounciness. And a side salad of crazy.
For the good contestant and likely winner to merge into one person, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a senior citizen in a giraffe-print tutu with webbed feet and an attitude problem. Now that would be something to see...
